NPR and NY Post Talk About the Best Tracks of 2009 (so far)

top_music_2009So, it’s happened. We’ve crossed the half way point of 2009. The year no longer seems fresh. It means a little more when someone tells you that Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, or Andrew Bird is the best album of 2009. And it’s time for that great music journalist past-time, list-making. Ah, the great lists that begin to emerge from now through the great crescendo in December.

Anyhow, NPR and NY Post just released lists of what they are calling the best tracks of 2009 (so far) – no lie, both of them pitch it the exact same way. Bob Boilen over at All Songs Considered has a pretty short list going, which is notably missing anything from The Antlers, who he has been praising all year. His list includes some tracks from Fanfarlo, The Low Anthem, and Patrick Watson. The NY Post picked 18 songs which include appearances by The Dirty Projectors, Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, Diane Birch and others. Both lists include free streams of all the songs in the list.

There you have it, the list making has begun. I know we can’t do lists of our favorite songs over at the main site but throw up some suggestions in the comments section. I’ll post a best tracks of the year list soon, because it sounds like fun.
