The Score: Best Free Downloads of the Week

612_photo1. Try this download of Sunn O))) live at Primavera Sound, courtesy of WFMU’s ongoing releases of live sets from Primavera. Their most recent album Monoliths and Dimensions is one of the best albums of the year, so far. Their haunting brand of metal is like something out of an Argento film.

2. A band I’ve been in love with for a couple of years now, Gowns, has made their very first tour EP, from 2005, available for free at the Free Music Archive. This was a super rare EP with a few studio cuts and a hand full of live tracks. They claim to have only pressed about 25 originally and then found out Pukekos got his hands on the EP and put it online. Now it’s available, so enjyo this and then go buy Red State.

3. Flavorpill put out another mixtape this week which includes new tracks from Mos Def, Dirty Projectors, The Fiery Furnaces, Yoko Ono, BLK JKS and more. Definitely worth the effort to download, despite the fact that their mixtapes make you go through three pages for each song….

4. I’m not personally much of a Regina Spektor fan, but NYC Taper just taped her most recent NYC performance and even I think this is a pretty damn good download. She can do it live. No doubt about it.

5. One more download from the Primavera Sound Festival. This time it’s Deerhunter playing a rather short set that hits some of the best tracks from their recent Rainwater Cassette Exchange EP and from Microcastle.
