Reverend And The Makers Frontman Gets On His Bike

Reverend And The Makers frontman John McClure is pissed off with the music industry. So much so that he announced in an interview with BBC Music 6 that after the release of his second album, the much anticipated follow up to The State Of Things, he will throw in the towel and become a rickshaw driver.

“I feel like a sore thumb in a piranha pool in this industry. I don’t like the way it’s all run by rich men in their fifties who went to private school…It makes me tired and it makes me feel ill and I don’t want anything more to do with it“.

After releasing the new album The French Kiss In The Chaos at the beginning of 2009 he isn’t planning on sticking around the business to see it’s effects, “[The music industry is] all done for profit and not for any degree of musical feeling or sentiment…Unfortunately, the press distort things to such a degree that you’ve not got a hope of knowing what the truth is, so it’s not something that I want to participate in or fuel any more.”

More Reverendisms after the jump

Concerning his upcoming album, McClure enthused ““It’s the best album that I could ever imagine in 2008, or 2009 which it will be by the time it comes out, but it sounds like everything that’s going on right now. I feel very, very proud of it - it’s a beautiful thing.” So that’s something for us to look forward to before he gets on his bike and starts pedalling.

Aside from that bomb, this week The Reverend also dropped on his forum news about a project that him and his friends have started up called Instigate Debate.

The project encourages people “Whoever you are, wherever you are, if you spot a public figure, any of the wonderful people who regularly appear in our fantastic magazines, newspapers or even on our tellies, try not to gush, or faint. Instead ask them a question.” Whoever produces the best post will get a free live set in their living room from some of the best musicians in the UK.
