New My Morning Jacket Video “Touch Me…”
My Morning Jacket have released the premiere video for the track Touch Me I’m Going To Scream Pt. II from their fifth studio album Evil Urges. The video tracks the night-time journey of a bog-eyed monkey who’s trying to catch a firefly to use in his lamp, he then is overcome with his own evil urge and the whole forest pays the price. It’s all rather delightful.
Created by the people at Mixtape Club a few people have already drawn direct connections and comparisons with the video and Where The Wild Things Are (and the upcoming Spike Jonze adaptation), however, on their website, the creators state:
“Hi Internet. Mixtape Club here. We wanted to clear something up. We’re not sure exactly how it got started, but a lot of people have been drawing connections between our MMJ video and Spike Jonze’s “Where the Wild Things Are” feature. In the blogosphere echochamber, this has gone from “reminiscent of” to “directly inspired by” to “in a cross-promotional agreement with.” We’re huge fans of Spike’s and Sendak’s work, and during the pre-production phase of this video Jesse read Maurice Sendak’s book (yes, the whole thing all by himself), but that’s about the extent of the relationship between our video and Mr. Jonze’s movie. We hope that clears things up for everybody.”
