In Case You Hadn’t Noticed, James Murphy Wants You to Give Disco a Second Chance

That zany LCD Soundsystem frontman, James Murphy, is at it again, bringing disco to the kids. The newest project from the man who blessed us with Hercules and Love Affair, is called Special Disco Version. James Murphy and cohort Pat Mahoney are embarking on a three month international DJ tour. The tour will consist of them spinning some old-school “underground classic disco.”

Murphy and co. are trying to reinvent the way we look back at disco. Less of the Bee-Gees, bellbottoms, John Travolta, and That 70’s Show, and more of the underground scene that generally shunned the Studio 54 scene. He has described the style as “real liberation music for people who know where to go.”

Speaking about the tour he said he hopes to continue “experimenting with remixes that we’re working on, I can keeping playing new stuff, and I can keep finding old records.”

Doesn’t Pat Mahoney kind of look like he could have been in the Bee Gee’s?
